Can the Timberwolves force a seven-game series like the Celtics did against the Heat?

The Minnesota Timberwolves’ 0-3 deficit to the Dallas Mavericks puts them in a situation that no team in league history has been able to overcome.

But we don’t have to go that far back to find an example where a team in this position forced a Game 7 to keep their postseason hopes alive.

If the Timberwolves are looking for even more hope, they can look to the Boston Celtics playing seven games against the Miami Heat last season. The Celtics trailed 0-3 after a blowout loss in Game 3, with many believing the Heat would complete the sweep and immediately face the Denver Nuggets. Boston forced a seven-game series and nearly overcame the impossible feat.

They unfortunately couldn’t complete this comeback due to a star performance from Caleb Martin and a mediocre game from Jaylen Brown after Jayson Tatum suffered an early injury. Their blowout loss in Game 7 illustrated the difficulty of achieving this level of comeback. The Celtics had to be essentially flawless and have everything line up perfectly. Still, they gave themselves a chance to move forward after being an afterthought in the eyes of many viewers.

The Timberwolves also have a chance to do this, but that starts Tuesday night. Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards continues to express optimism that his team can overcome this deficit.

“Time to make history, guys,” Edwards told his teammates, according to The Athletic. “I still don’t feel like they can beat us, buddy. We didn’t all click at the same time. A match. A match.’
