Akufo-Addo commissions new 10-storey law office in Accra for Attorney General

  • President Akufo-Addo has commissioned a major new office for the Attorney General and the Ministry of Justice
  • The new building, located next to the High Court complex, includes 130 office spaces
  • Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame and Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo spoke at the inauguration of the building

The government has officially inaugurated The Law House, a ten-storey tower in Accra, to serve as the new office of the Attorney General and the Ministry of Justice.

The building was put into use on Monday, June 10, 2024, after its inception in 2001.

The Law House project was initially expected to be completed in May 2004, but the contract for the building was terminated and re-awarded in 2023.

The new building adjacent to the High Court complex has a two-level basement, 130 office spaces and a dining area.

During the commissioning, Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame pledged to ensure that all regional offices of the Attorney General and the Ministry of Justice will be housed in buildings of at least three floors.

Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, while recognizing the importance of building courts, emphasized the need for dedicated resources for legal education reforms and other projects to improve the administration of justice.

Bawumia orders Kayayei hostel

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia recently inaugurated a hostel facility and skills training center for head porters known as kayayei in Accra.

The multi-purpose facilities in Madina and Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region fulfill the Bawumia promise in 2019.

Each facility includes 300 beds, training rooms, a pantry, a kitchen and a clinic.

Female head porters who enrolled in the skills training center received GH¢500 each as monthly allowance when they embarked on their four-week free training course at the facility.
