UFC302 is perhaps the most important battle for Islam Makhachev in his career. If you ask why, it’s because of his opponent Dustin Poirier is one of the most decorated lightweights, even though he never won the undisputed title. But guess what? Makhachev plans to keep it that way Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s protégé was recently spotted practicing the guillotine choke ahead of UFC 302, prompting reactions from the MMA community.

Dustin Poirier in particular is said to have serious boxing skills, as evidenced by the 15 KO/TKO victories he has racked up in his MMA career. But he is also a great wrestler, as evidenced by his multiple guillotine attempts to choke his opponent. Now, his opponent on June 1, Islam Makhachev is also working on that maneuver, as ESPN recently shared a short video of the lightweight champion rolling onto the mat during a workout.

In the video, Islam Makhachev tried to control his opponent’s stance using the guillotine choke. Later he finished at the top. He referred to training on this technique before his championship fight and it’s pretty clear that Khabib Nurmagomedov gave him all the hints since he fought Dustin Poirier and left him in the dust almost five years ago.

As the video made the rounds on social media, many personalities from the MMA community, including fans, took to Instagram and reacted to the 10-second video clip. But would you believe it? Islam Makhachev received mixed reactions.

Where do we start? Well, for starters, Conor McGregor‘s friend, training partner and former BJJ coach, Dillon Danis, jumped to the comments section and tried to invade Islam Makhachev. He called out his guillotine choke technique. Danis commented: “Terrible technology.” Meanwhile, Makhachev’s manager and his training partner Ali Abdelaziz, And Belal Mohammedseemed to appreciate the champion’s submission move and responded with the fire emojis.

From the fans’ perspective, there were some Dustin Poirier supporters who believe that despite what we’ve seen with Islam Makhachev, ‘The Diamond’ could be the one to get that finish, and that too, quite quickly. Meanwhile, a fan claimed that Makhachev would be somewhat disrespectful to Poirier if he tried to get that guillotine locked up. While someone said: “DP -2nd round TKO,” the other said, “For him to guillotine him is so disrespectful.”

On the other hand, some fans said: “Islam is a level above Dustin, let’s be real,” “Islam according to Guillotine would be insane,” And, ‘Dustin is about to retire,’ siding with Islam Makhachev. Fans also believe that the fight between the champion and challenger won’t last too long, as one fan called out ESPN for not letting Makhachev’s guillotine move remain a secret. While someone said: ‘It’s going to be a quick fight’ the other said: “Why give us a spoiler in particular.”
