Man charged in drug deaths in Elgin, Palatine

Jarrail Ford-Gresham

A man has been accused of killing two people in Elgin and Palatine by giving them cocaine laced with fentanyl.

Jarrail Ford-Gresham, 34, of Elgin, is charged with two counts of drug-induced homicide and two counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, according to a news release from Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul’s office. Raoul’s office will prosecute the case along with the Kane County District Attorney’s Office.

Ford-Gresham was arrested Wednesday.

“These charges are a stark reminder of how deadly drugs, especially fentanyl, can be,” Raoul said in the news release. “I remain committed to working with law enforcement agencies across the state to keep drugs off the streets and our communities safe.”

According to Raoul’s office, Gresham supplied cocaine to two people between Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, 2023. The first was in Elgin, where the victim and another person pooled money to buy crack cocaine. The second person was seen entering and exiting Ford-Gresham’s vehicle, the release said. About a minute later, the victim returned to split the cocaine. The victim was found the next morning at a homeless camp in Elgin.

Later that day, Gresham and another victim entered a motel in Palatine, according to the release, and that evening police were called to the motel and found the second victim dead.

Elgin and Palatine police investigated the deaths.

The press release did not provide information about the victims.

Ford-Gresham was charged with drug-induced homicide in Marengo in McHenry County in November.
