Oudom, Spackenkill top Croton-Harmon in sugregional class B

SAUGERTIES – Linus Oudom allowed an unearned run in six innings and Bryan Hoyt drove in and scored the decisive run in the first inning Saturday, leading Spackenkill in a 5-2 victory over Section 1’s Croton-Harmon in a Class B baseball sub-regional at Cantine Field in Saugerties.

After winning a third consecutive Section 9 title, Spackenkill is on its way to its second state championship in three seasons. They advance to host the Long Island champion in a regional final Saturday at Cantine Field at a time to be determined.

The Spartans scored three runs in the first inning and were in control throughout. Hoyt’s RBI single scored Dylan Updike to put them on the board, then Dan Collins scored on a throw error during a rundown, and Dylan Boenig’s sacrifice fly drove in Hoyt.

Spackenkill later scored two more runs on errors, including Collins coming in from second on a fielding error, giving them a 5-1 lead in the fifth inning. The Tigers were hampered by five errors.

Hoyt went 1 for 2 with a walk for the Spartans (17-4). Collins went 1 for 2 with a walk and two runs, allowing a run in an inning of relief.

Oudom, meanwhile, gave up four hits, walked three and struck out five. Croton-Harmon had at least one baserunner in each inning, but the sophomore worked without any problems. The Tigers, helped by an error, scored their first run in the fourth when Max Fredman scored on Andrew Sur’s sacrifice fly.

Owen Mintzer hit an RBI single with two outs to drive in Ryan Kim in the seventh before Collins recorded the final out on Dylan Updike’s diving catch in center field.

Mintzer was 3 for 4 for the Tigers (18-6), who won their first Section 1 title since 1981 last week.

This story will be updated later with more details, quotes and photos.
